Meet us for our 2010 Federal Election Gender Dialogue!

UNIFEM Australia wants to hear the voices of our members and the public and what is on your mind for this year’s big election. In order to facilitate a dialogue around the concerns of women and UNIFEM Australia’s platform, we would like to invite you to meet us on Gender Equality Online throughout the course of the election for our Federal Election discussion forums. Here UNIFEM Australia will have our 2010 Federal Election forum created with each of our platform topics set up for discussion and information sharing. This invitation is extended to anyone interested a gender analysis for human rights in Australia and in our region.

In October it will be the 10th anniversary of Security Council Resolution 1325.

This resolution was the first time the impact of conflict on women and important the role women can play in post-conflict resolution had been recognised.

UNIFEM has launched an online petition asking for all government's to support three steps to implement Security Council Resolution 1325:
- prosecute those who command/or commit sexual violence and exclude them from armies and police forces after conflict
- Ensure that women participate in peace negotiations and all post-conflict decision-making institutions
- Increase the number of women in troops, police forces and civilians within international peacekeeping efforts

Please go to http://www.saynotoviolence.org/make-women-count-for-peace and sign the petition now!
